How’s the Water?

Going kayaking? Check this out first.

Current maintains probes in the Chicago and Calumet rivers to monitor water quality and keep the public informed. It's called H20Now, and it's the first real-time water quality monitoring project in the U.S. to measure microbial pollutants in an urban waterway.

An M. Harris & Co. team led by Jonathon Berlin came up with a way to get the water-quality data from the river to the H2NOW website and designed the gauges you see pictured here.

H2NOW Chicago earned a 2022 Chicago Innovation Award.

You'll see rhinos, giraffes, okapis, cheetahs and maybe even an elusive Florida panther on a tour of one of America's most beautiful hidden places. (White Oak also has summer camps for children ages 9 to 17.)

The Polsky Exchange is a 34,000-square-foot startup hub featuring co-working space, a state-of-the-art fabrication lab, and a full calendar of workshops that help entrepreneurs translate their ideas into companies.

Located in Hyde Park, the Exchange is headquarters for thousands of startups. Membership is free to all University of Chicago faculty, staff and students. Community-based entrepreneurs with no affiliation to the university can become members for a nominal monthly fee

As an entrepreneur-in-residence, Melissa Harris teaches public relations, digital marketing, marketing strategy, and content and social media seminars at the Polsky Center and Polsky Exchange.

Beloit College

Banned Together

We’re facing a record high number of book bans in the United States.

Florida is leading the way, pushing to remove books like To Kill A Mockingbird, The Hunger Games and The Perks of Being A Wallflower from libraries and classrooms.

We were thrilled to partner with independent bookstore Zeppelin Books and nonprofit AnitaB.org to create The Banned Stand, a pop-up shop featuring banned books, at the Grace Hopper Celebration in Orlando, Fla.
